Con Quigley Corporate Finance Partner
Con Quigley is a corporate finance partner and currently the managing partner in Horwath Bastow Charleton Limerick. On an ongoing basis, Con advises a number of major private Irish companies in a variety of sectors including: hotels and hospitality, construction, financial services, environmental and all kinds of professional service firms. He handles acquisitions, admission of new owners and new capital, new project appraisal and funding, development of management teams and the resolution of family-related or interpersonal issues which often arise in the ownership and management of private companies and partnerships. He has been lead co-ordinator of a long list of tax-based and consortia investments – especially in property and tourism. He focuses on devising and re-organising ownership structures (including financial restructuring) to achieve a balance of risk, tax and motivational factors. He is experienced and skilled in both financial engineering and conflict resolution. Con is regularly engaged by banks, state bodies, legal advisors and investors to provide an independent view on financial, business and tourism issues – drawing on his theoretical background, wide experience and communication skills. Con is the Chairman of the National Insolvency Unit, HBC’s dedicated insolvency centre-of-excellence. He has overseen a large number of restructuring projects – starting with the complete restructuring of the McInerney Group plc in the early 1990s. His restructuring and other corporate finance experience covers Irish and international assignments e.g. the restructuring of a Chicago property company; strategic financial advice to Aer Rianta in Moscow and St Petersburg; advising international hotel clients on restructuring activities in Spain, Portugal and Dubai; strategic advice to hotel companies in Croatia, Cyprus and Kuwait. He is a regular advisor to financial institutions on devising work-out plans and conducting operational and strategic reviews. Con has prepared a number of independent accountant reports for the Courts in their assessment of whether to appoint an examiner to insolvent companies. He is known as a highly technical and rigorous professional with particular strength in unravelling and resolving complex technical and conflict-strewn cases. Earlier in his career Con worked for 10 years with a big 4 firm in Dublin and Philadelphia and completed assignments for multinational, plc and institutional clients in US, Ireland, Eastern Europe, Spain and Portugal. Con is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from NUIG (formerly University College Galway), and a finals prize-winner in both the Chartered Accountant and Institute of Taxation exams. He is also a member of the Marketing Institute. Con has been a guest lecturer on Chartered Accountants Ireland’s Corporate Finance Diploma course and is a member of the advisory board to the Cairns Business School at NUIG.
