The Limerick firm of Horwath Bastow Charleton was founded in November 2003 by four of Limerick’s most successful financial professionals and 14 of their colleagues – with a view to building a national leading firm of advisors – from a base in the Mid-West. We have since grown in strength and number and currently have a staff complement of 70. Crowe Horwath International is one of the 10 largest global networks of independent accounting and advisory services firms. Crowe Horwath is a network of more than 140 independent accounting and advisory services firms with 560 offices and 26,250 partners and staff in more than 100 countries around the world. Crowe Horwath's member firms are committed to impeccable quality service, highly integrated service delivery processes and a common set of core values that guide our decisions daily. Each firm is well established as a leader in its national business community and is staffed by nationals, thereby guaranteeing a knowledge of local laws and customs which is important to clients undertaking new ventures or expanding into other countries. Crowe Horwath member firms are known for their personal service to privately and publicly-held businesses in all sectors and have built an international reputation in the areas of audit, tax, risk and advisory services. The firm, originally established in Dublin as Bastow Charleton, is one of Irelands longest established and most venerable firms of chartered accountants. Horwath has 20 partners in Ireland and a staff in excess of two hundred in 3 separate independent firms located in Dublin, Limerick and Belfast. The Limerick firm, along with its independent Dublin counterpart, form the Irish representative of Crowe Horwath International in the Republic of Ireland. According to the International Accounting Bulletin’s country surveys, Horwath is again in the number eight position among Ireland’s accounting firms and associations in 2008. Although working across a range of industry sectors, the Limerick practice is built around a number of key sectoral specialisms. Our clients are from various sectors and of various sizes, from sole traders and small owner-managed companies, through to some of Ireland's leading national companies. As a medium-sized practice we are ideally positioned to serve your needs. Our clients can draw on the national and international experience of our consultants who each have particular knowledge and expertise in specialised accountancy, business and advisory disciplines, while retaining the personalised service and approach of a smaller practice that is warm but efficient. Our international links enable us to ensure that our clients receive, in any country in which they decide to do business, the same quality of service as they have come to expect from us here in Ireland. Horwath Bastow Charleton is and has always been known for its PROFESSIONALISM and INDEPENDENCE. We use the word “advisors” to describe our firm because that word most accurately describes our people, our mission, our professionalism, our business objective and our value to our clients. It distinguishes us from those that are merely accountants, or merely auditors, or merely brokers, or merely financial service firms, or merely technical experts. Or indeed those accountants who will seek to earn or enhance their income from commissions or fees based on the purchase of or participation in investment schemes by the very clients that they purport to advise.
The team at Horwath Bastow Charleton Limerick is led by some of the country’s foremost financial advisors. We are a highly reliable and innovative group, supportive of each other and our clients. We are committed to quality service and are competitive and ambitious. The partners in the firm include a member of the International Council Of Chartered Certified Accountants, members of various Institute Committees, two First Place Prize-winners In Chartered Accountancy, Prize-Winning Tax Finalists, a recent President Of The Institute Of Tax, a regular visiting Trinity Lecturer, a Member Of The Institute Disciplinary Committee, a Member Of Crowe Horwath’s European Tax Committee, the Irish Representative On The Confederation Fiscale Europeenne (“CFE”), the Secretary Of The Institute Of European Affairs as well as practitioners with top-level international experience in Big 4 firms in the US, UK, Europe, Russia and Canada. Crowe Horwath International first published the CCH International Tax guides over 25 years ago. The guides are the source of authoritative precedent for tax practitioners advising on cross-border tax structures in many countries. In Ireland, Horwath Bastow Charleton publishes the Consolidated Companies Acts which appear on the bookshelves of all leading lawyers, corporate financiers and accountants. Our key staff and management group consists entirely of qualified professionals with a first class background in their specialised field. All of our audit, corporate finance and taxation team members are qualified Chartered Accountants or University graduates in articles. The firm prides itself on its reputation for knowledge and professionalism. Most of the partners and senior staff lecture and contribute to publications on technical auditing, accounting and professional topics. Every year, the firm organises the Horwath Bastow Charleton annual Trinity Lecture in conjunction with the Institute. The most recent speaker was Sir David Tweedie, the chairman of the International Accounting Standards Committee and probably the foremost global figure in accounting developments for the last 10 years.
